You want daylight in your cellar? 3M Optical Lighting Film (OLF) is a thin, flexible film made of clear optical grade polycarbonate. It transports light with extremely high efficiency: up to 99% of the light remains after each interaction with the film. It can be installed into hollow light guides to transport (day)light deep into a building. Depending upon the angle at which a light ray strikes the surface, the film is reflective or transmissive. read more

This complete lightweight bridge with a free span of 8,5 meter is made out of recycled plastics. The steelreinforced bridge in the Netherlands weights only 3000 kg and can deal with a load bearing capacity of 500 kilogram per square meter. Recycled plastics have more and more the same or even better technical properties than new materials..... read more




Your project here


Building a birds-nest in 16,000 hours? 1.3 million cable ties together create this artwork called "the third space”.  Students of the Academy of Arts in Munich transformed space into an amorphous landscape by weaving thousands and thousands of cable ties. In more than 16,000 hours’ work, they wove, linked and lashed together the polyamide strips for the exhibition “Two Hundred Years Academy of Arts”. read more

The London Design Festival 2008 promises an array of creative events, imaginative exhibitions and installations including “Size + Matter”. Materials confirmed for this project include Glass and Composite Carbon Fibre, and David Adjaye, one of the UK’s leading architects, is aiming to create a pavilion made of American flexible tulipwood. read more




Inspiration


The Olympics in 2012 in London will be green. And as a start a total recyclable Olympic Stadium is designed by HOK Sport architects. The stadium will hold 80,000 people during the Games but will be scaled back afterwards to a more compact 25,000-seater. With low-impact building materials like hemp and recycled ships the stadium will be the lightest ever. read more
